Where We Eat - Ginger Pig, Borough Market

Sometimes a single product reaches a point where it simply can't get any better.

For me, the sausage roll at the Ginger Pig is one of those things. I genuinely cannot conceive of a single way in which it could be improved.

They now do a pork and stilton version, and a lamb merguez. Both are good. But that's not better...it's just different.

I think about this sausage roll roughly once a week. Sometimes more. If there is an errand that requires going into town, and if there is any conceivable route that takes me via London Bridge with a few minutes to spare, I will make the detour.

Last week I had to go to the bank to pay in some cash...a delightfully retro experience in itself. I timed it carefully. Late morning on a Tuesday.

Ginger Pig are closed on Mondays. Leave it any later than half eleven and the tourist groups are in full swing, the queues are considerable and the window has passed. Tuesday at eleven thirty is the sweet spot.

£7 for the perfect sausage roll, eaten in the sunshine outside Borough Market...whilst pondering the profusion of marketing offers at Café François just across the road and quietly planning a blog on the subject...

A perfect way to spend a Tuesday morning.
