Where We Eat: Petrus

Just before the summer break Alina & Joel had lunch at Petrus by Gordon Ramsey in Knightsbridge...a wedding anniversary gift from a very kind friend!

 

Unsurprisingly Petrus (and Knightsbridge in general) is not the kind of place we'd normally choose to eat out, but not being the kind of people to look a gift horse in the mouth we got dressed up and went for a Michelin starred lunch

 

Again unsurprisingly, it was absolutely flawless in terms of execution and flavour as well as being beautifully presented and immaculately served, the Swaledale lamb with peas & mint pictured above being a great example

 

What stood out most of all though was that beneath the smart presentation and the finesse of the plating, the flavours were all built on absolutely classic combinations

 

It’s easy to over complicate food, but the best restaurants, and those which stand the test of time (Petrus included) understand that classic flavours and flawless execution are the foundations on which everything else is built
