Where We Eat: Sons in Hackney

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who has supported our crowdfunding campaign for Fields!
We’ve been genuinely blown away by the response and feel incredibly grateful to have a community of people willing to support what we do and back projects that we’re excited about…but which we also believe can make our little corner of South East London even better for everyone who lives here
Thank you, sincerely!
In the meantime, we’ve been out and about doing some entirely serious research into park cafés…which has involved eating a frankly unreasonable number of toasted sandwiches…
One of the very best we’ve had was at Sons up in Hackney!
It’s a tiny little spot in a small churchyard just off Mare Street. Everything comes out of a hatch, there’s no indoor seating, and when the sun is shining it feels exactly as a park café should!
The star of the show was the grilled cheese (pictured above) stuffed with braised beef brisket and dill pickles…EPIC!
Honestly, I’ve eaten more toasted sandwiches than most people and this was an absolute winner!
We’re still piecing together our plans for Fields and working through what the food offer should look like, so trips like this are all part of the process.
If you’d like to stay in the loop, Instagram is the best place to follow along…and whilst we can’t promise that a beef brisket grilled cheese will make the final menu…we’re working on some fun stuff and can’t wait to share more in the weeks ahead!
