Where We Eat: Towpath in Haggerston

As I’m writing this on Wednesday, enjoying the glorious sunshine outside and thinking about our upcoming pop-up with Angus Kitchin, I’m reminded that one of the best places for outdoor dining in London is just around the corner from where Angus had his restaurant in Haggerston.
Towpath is somewhere we’ve eaten more times than we can remember and, if you’ve not been, then honestly you really should…it’s an absolute institution. Sitting by the canal with simple, fresh, Italian-inspired plates and a chilled bottle of white is about as good as it gets on a sunny day in London!
Founded by Lori and Laura 17 years ago, both of whom are still there every day, Towpath opens in mid-March and closes again sometime in late October. The menu is written on the chalkboard every morning and, come rain or shine, it retains a warmth and welcome that is hard to beat.
Go for breakfast…porridge or their iconic eggs on toast fried in sage butter, which remains Alina’s favourite way to cook eggs ever since she first tried it there. Add a freshly squeezed blood orange juice, sit back, read the paper and watch the world go by!
They’ve got a no-laptop rule as well, which tells you everything you need to know!
