Where We Eat: Koya on Broadway Market

One of the quirks of hospitality life is having Mondays and Tuesdays off…which, to be fair, has its advantages.
The pubs are quieter, life admin is easier to get through, and it’s generally a much nicer time to be out and about than at the weekend!
But there are downsides too…like the fact that very few good spots are open for lunch early in the week, especially outside of central London. Most indie restaurants (ourselves included) shut completely on Mondays and Tuesdays, or only open in the evenings
It’s for exactly this reason that we keep a list of places we like, who are kind enough to provide a good early week lunch option without requiring a trip to Zone 1…of which Koya in Broadway Market is one
A couple of weeks ago we took a trip: Overground from Brockley to Haggerston, picked up a coffee, then took a sunny stroll along the canal to Broadway Market. A table outside in the autumn sunshine? Perfect!
Crispy fried soft boiled egg, katsu curry, rice, fried chicken and a pickle plate…yes we were slightly hungover…and it absolutely hit the spot!
The original Koya on Old Compton Street in Soho has been around since 2010 and serves a slightly more refined menu (including some of the best udon noodles in town) so is well worth a visit if you’re in the West End
For hungover hospitality lunches however, Koya in Broadway Market is a winner and after lunch you can head a few doors down to The Dove for a pint!
